“Before the rain ends, we can hear a bird. Even under the heavy snow we see snowdrops and some new growth.”
-Shunryū Suzuki
I draw from both institutional knowledge and lived experience to inform my work with patients. My approach is both embodied and intellectual, verbal and non-verbal, encouraging thinking, feeling, experiencing, and noticing together. I integrate relational psychoanalytic therapy with a grounding in interpersonal neuroscience and attachment theory. While talk therapy is my primary modality, at times we may engage in mindfulness and somatic awareness to make contact with your feelings and experiences. From decades of mindfulness and creative practice, I bring my own mind-body-heart integration into the work, with a deeper capacity to listen through multiple channels of communication.
Psychoanalytic therapy can offer long-lasting, meaningful change in your life through exploring the root of your symptoms and suffering, which can take some time and patience. While finding solutions or addressing symptoms can offer temporary relief, deeper change occurs over time. I meet with clients at least once a week, and often two, three or four times a week. With consistency and frequency of contact, we can create a stronger therapeutic alliance to dive deeper into the work together.
I offer both safety and challenge within a holding environment – I will offer honest feedback and insight into underlying issues related to your struggles. We will explore what comes up in our therapeutic relationship as a window into your internal world. Together, we will make sense of your past experiences, early childhood wounds, and their impact on your present day life.
Over time, you might begin to notice an increased sense of internal freedom, a shedding of old patterns, an emerging sense of self, and an improved relationship with yourself and others. You may begin to feel more spontaneous, expressive, and alive. You may become more curious, be able to speak more freely and truthfully, show up more honestly in your relationships, and gain more clarity about what’s happening inside yourself.
